If you've read my webs blog (there's a link to it in the first post on this blog), you will know that I've been searching for a job for about 1-2 years. Well, a job finally landed onto my lap from my previous attempts. But, it isn't a good one. I have taken a job with a local paper delivering copies to the doorstep of subscribers, and while by itself it wouldn't be a bad job, it doesn't even pay enough for me to make a living. A friend of mine is a bouncer, and he told me that doing what he does, he gets paid as much in a day as I do in an entire month. I earn less than someone working part-time at McDonald's or whatever other burger joint you can think of flipping burgers and taking orders at the cash register.
But that's not even the worst of it! The first day on the job, I already needed medical attention. Here's what happened: I was delivering papers to some guy's house, and the walkway was really slippery, and I didn't even own a good pair of snow boots with decent traction. On my way back from that house, I slipped and lost my footing, and there was a bush to my left, and my ear landed directly on top of it somehow and the branch jabbed my eardrum. At the time it hurt so bad that I felt like the branch broke itself off in my ear, but later I found out that wasn't the case. But my ear was bleeding pretty badly and my hearing was a little messed up for a while.
I tried to set up an appointment with my doctor, but he wasn't available, so I went to the E.R. to get my ear checked to see if anything was wrong with it. That's when I learned about my eardrum perforation, and the doctor prescribed Zithromax for it. Well, the days have come and gone, and my hearing is better now, and I've used up all my antibiotics, but I already don't like this job, so I'm trying to get one that pays me better, especially if I can be somewhere where I'm not in the cold. Until then, I'm going to have to put up with being overworked and underpaid.
